Kaitlyn’s Kutters

This cutter is going in the mail for Towana, who was in charge of our sleeping car on my train trip to Oregon last December. After a 14 hour delay because of bad weather, we were all tired and sore. The hard wooden benches in the train station had dividers about every 2 feet so we could not lie down. Towana had me on board and flat on my back in bed so fast it was unbelievable. She made me eat lunch and dinner and basically just took care of me and the other passengers, even bringing breakfast in bed to the mother and daughter in the compartment across from me.
The Towana Angel is holding a train ticket and is wearing the official Amtrek uniform. Thank you from a grateful passenger.

I wish my photography was as good as the decorating on the cookies I photographed at the meeting. The cookies were amazing works of art. And the people were amazing too. So much talent! The theme was “Wizard of Oz” so we had flying monkeys, lions, poppies, lots of witches and ruby slippers – if it was in the book or movie, it was a beautifully decorated cookie.

I have just joined the California chapter of CCCC and will be going to the chapter meeting, which is being held in Monterey (actually Seaside), California on January 13, 2007. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone. Marty Pemberton, the national president and a wonderful customer, found me on ebay. I’ll post pictures when I get back.

The train that was supposed to leave for home at 10 pm on the 15th, did not arrive at the station until 11:15 am on the 16th. It was a long, cold, uncomfortable night for 7 of us at the Klamath Falls train station. It wouldn’t have been so bad, but the hard, wooden benches had hard, wooden armrests about every 2 feet, which made it impossible to lie down. And, we kept being told: “another 2 hours”, all night long. By sunrise, everyone was pretty grumpy, besides being tired and sore. On the up side: I upgraded to a sleeper and realized that is the only way to travel on a train. It was sheer heaven at that point, to get to lay down flat on a soft bed in a private compartment. My heartfelt gratitude goes out to Towana, who was like a housemother in our sleeper car. She had my baggage put away and me tucked into bed in the blink of an eye. So, I actually got home rested and happy. I do miss the beautiful forests and mountains up north.

The picture below is on the way to Mt. Shasta on the 89. There was nobody but me on the road, so I snapped a picture. I’m not sure you can tell, but it’s snowing, and the sun is still shining down.

I’m up in Klamath Falls, Oregon. The train home should be leaving at 10 pm. Everyone up here laughs when I say that. It seems the trains are notorious for being late, especially when the weather is bad. It’s supposed to be down to 15 degrees by 10 pm and more snow is expected. I’ve been up here for about a week, just checking out Northern California. It is beautiful, and the people are so nice and friendly. I’m in a cafe called Thai Orchid where I was invited to come surf the web, answer email wait for the train in a comfortable place, rather than at the train station. They have great food, wireless internet and wonderful people who keep me supplied with hot tea and watermelon. If you’re ever in Klamath Falls, be sure and check it out.
Monday morning, I will be mailing a hummingbird and a penguin, purchased from my ebay store. Priority Mail takes 2-3 days, so it is still possible to get your kutters by Christmas. I’ll check in again when I get back. I don’t think I’ll be able to connect on the train, but we’ll see. Until then, enjoy!

This is really a fun little set. You use them to make sandwich cookies. And, there are so many metalic looking edible powders to decorate with.

They are on the way, Annie. I’ve got a new laptop – let’s see if I can get the pictures to work here. The Star Trek Enterprise is definitely not an easy cutter to make.

I’m going to be going to Northern California for a week, beginning December 10. I will be back on the 17th. Any purchases made after the 8th of December will not be shipped until the 18th. Priority mail takes 2-3 days, so they should arrive by Christmas without a problem. I will be able to stay in contact by email and I’ll post some highlights of the trip when I get back.

The “Running Gingerbread Man” is on ebay right now with a starting bid of $18. I’m hoping to start having “buy it now” deals on ebay soon. Look for new cutters at least 3 times a week PayPal is wonderful, if you haven’t already tried it. If you search for “Running Gingerbread Man” on ebay, this cutter seems to be the only thing that comes up. However, if you go to “community” and search for member vickie6411, you will get to see everything I have on ebay. Unfortunately, they are telling me it won’t be available for a few hours. So, give it 2 or 3 hours (it’s about 11:45 am), try it and let me know if it works.
